The Community-Based Work Experience (CWE) program at Employment Support Services is designed to assess a participant’s job readiness and employability for competitive employment. This program caters to individuals with varying levels of disabilities and employment barriers, providing a supportive and structured environment to build skills, gain experience, and develop confidence.

What is the CWE Program?

The CWE program is a short-term, work-based experience that helps participants:
  • Determine if they are job-ready and capable of succeeding in competitive employment.
  • Overcome employment barriers and gain valuable work experience.
  • Work in a supportive environment with on-site guidance from an ESS Trainer for participants requiring additional support (Levels 2–5).

Key Features of the Program

Paid Work Experience

Participants are paid minimum wage for all hours worked during the program.

Structured Rotations

The program operates on 3-week rotations (15 workdays), providing an intensive and focused experience.

Customized Duration

Nevada VR Counselors determine the number of rotations a participant can complete based on individual needs and goals.

Shift Length

Participants work 3 to 4-hour shifts, making it manageable and productive while fostering workplace stamina.

Levels of Suppor

Determined by Nevada VR Counselor. Based on individual needs, the Trainer-to-Participant ratios will vary from 1:1 to no more than 1:5, ensuring adequate support for all participants.

  1. Referral: Participants are referred by their Nevada VR Counselor to Employment Support Services as their CWE provider.
  2. Placement: Participants are placed in a worksite that aligns with their abilities and interests.
  3. On-the-Job Support: Trainers provide continuous guidance and ensure participants can perform tasks effectively and safely.
  4. Assessment: Throughout the rotations, participants’ performance and readiness for competitive employment are evaluated.
  5. Completion: At the end of the program, participants receive feedback and recommendations for future steps, whether additional training, further rotations, or transitioning to employment.

The CWE program is available to individuals with disabilities referred by the Nevada Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). Participants interested in this program must contact their NV VR Counselor to request a referral to Employment Support Services for the CWE program.

ESS staff provide on-site support and comprehensive evaluations to assess job readiness.

  1. Referral: Participants are referred by their Nevada VR Counselor to Employment Support Services as their CBA provider.

Dedicated Support

ESS Skills Trainers are on-site at Sunrise Hospital to provide guidance and ensure participants succeed in their rotations.

Collaborative Effort

This program is a partnership between Nevada Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Clark County School District (CCSD), Sunrise Hospital, and Employment Support Services (ESS).

Specialized Placement

Sunrise Hospital is serviced by ESS, while other sister hospitals are managed by other VR providers.

  1. Referral: Participants must be referred by their school district and have an open case with Nevada Vocational Rehabilitation. Families can inquire about the program through their CCSD Transition Specialist.
  2. Application & Selection: Candidates are evaluated based on readiness and their ability to benefit from the program.
  3. Orientation: Participants undergo an orientation to understand the program structure, rotation opportunities, and the skills they will develop.
  4. Classroom Training & Rotations: Participants receive daily instruction from a CCSD teacher and complete workplace rotations at Sunrise Hospital with support from ESS Skills Trainers.
  5. Employment Transition: Upon completing the program, participants are supported in transitioning to competitive employment with a strong foundation of skills, references, and confidence.

The Project SEARCH Internship Program is open to students with disabilities who:

The Silver State Works Program is a state-funded initiative designed to encourage Nevada employers to hire individuals with barriers to employment by offering financial incentives. Employment Support Services (ESS) helps coordinate the use of this program to support our clients referred for job development services through Nevada Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). By leveraging this program, we aim to create opportunities for clients who are lacking work experience and seeking meaningful employment.

What is the Silver State Works Program?

The Silver State Works Program is an employment initiative that provides:

  • Financial incentives for employers who hire eligible individuals.
  • Opportunities for individuals to gain valuable work experience and build their resumes.
  • Support for participants transitioning into competitive employment.

Key Features of the Program

Employer Incentives

Nevada employers may receive reimbursements or stipends for hiring eligible individuals, helping to offset training and onboarding costs.

Participant Eligibility

ESS clients referred through NV VR for job development services are prioritized for this program.

Coordination by ESS

ESS assists in connecting employers with the program and ensures all requirements are met for participation.

Funding Availability

The program is utilized as long as state funding is available, and employers meet all eligibility requirements.

  1. Referral: Participants are referred to ESS for job development services through Nevada Vocational Rehabilitation (VR).
  2. Employer Collaboration: ESS identifies employers interested in hiring participants and utilizing the Silver State Works Program.
